Annie Brown is a New York City based playwright, composer, director and producer with a love for sharing stories about how we, as humans, deal with change.
Annie's love for theatre began as a young performer. As she grew up she developed a love for every aspect of theatre, writing included! She aims to share stories of love and loss from angles that often get overlooked. Annie currently studies Playwriting and Theatre & New Media at Marymount Manhattan College. |
As a young child, I started off as a storyteller of the stage through performance. Passed down from older siblings, it was a world that was easy to grab my interest. But now, as a college student, my perceptions of art have shifted a bit and ultimately it has altered my ways of thinking and effected my creative desires. I still identify as a “storyteller of the stage” but rather than performing, I am often found on the production side of projects. As a playwright, composer, and creator in endless categories, I find it difficult to label just what I do and the things I desire to do in the future. Especially with newer innovations in the entertainment industry, everything does go hand and hand… video and virtual modeling is used to create a virtual world for not only live shows, but film and photography stages as well. Plays and musicals are adapting to the lifestyles of their community by offering pieces written specifically for podcasting. These are just two examples, but art is continuing to grow and has opportunities to reach people anywhere and everywhere, so as an artist and creator of theatre I strive to grow with it!
Additionally, I must state that the basis of my passion for sharing stories lies in my admiration for the human experience and hatred for the “one story” lives that many of us live. Exploring new medias allows for innovation ultimately expanding the reachable audience. Art is everywhere, let’s use it to put some good in the world.
